What's Left in the Larder

Today we ate our last winter squash harvested over six months ago.  It was bitter and I’m sad about that.

I wondered exactly what is left in our larder.  Here’s the count as of March 9, 2010:

8.5 quarts applesauce

10 half pints tomato paste

3 quarts tomato sauce

12 quarts whole tomatoes

2 half pints ketchup

3 quarts barbeque sauce

2009 in Review

This post is more for me than you.  It’s hard to believe 2009 is almost over, yet we were so busy during the twelve months.

In January, our kitchen was re-floored and re-insulated.  By the end of the month we installed cabinets, new appliances, and cooked our first meal in the new configuration.

Happy Birthday Rachel!

Today is Rachel’s birthday. It’s hard to believe she is almost thirty; time sure does fly. I hope she has a very happy birthday and is happy with the celebrations we have planned for her.

Stout Comparison

Tonight we are comparing three stout beers: Rogue Chocolate Stout (Oregon), Bell’s Special Double Cream Stout (Michigan), and Goose Island Oatmeal Stout (Illinois).

Why these three? They were the only stouts available tonight at the unusually understocked Pace Hi, our nearest fine beer carryout.

Last Foreign Drinks

We are having some of our last foreign drinks until 2009. Last night we had friends visit from Cincinnati, so we went for something special.
