I am still off playing with kids at Franklin Park conservatory. What better time than now for you to talk amongst yourselves?

That’s right, I want you readers to come out from behind the screen. This is your open invitation to introduce yourself.

Tell us a little about where you live, whether and what you like to cook, if you have a garden, and the URL of your blog if you have one. Whatever you would like to share, we would like to read!

I’m Sally, and I live in Clintonville (in Columbus). I cook every night but am not very good at it yet. I love to bake, especially pies, and I could eat my homemade bread with real butter for three meals a day if it didn’t mean gaining 50 pounds. I have grown basil and peppers in containers and flower beds–and I’d love to have a bigger garden, but I’m not sure where to put it in my small-ish city backyard. I really enjoy this site for Rachel’s ideas about things to do around the home and around Columbus.

My name is Sara and I live in Italian Villiage. My husband and I have a 14 month old and we love to garden and cook. I work full time so my time is very limited, but I love sharing good food with friends and family.

Hi! I’m Erin. I live near 161 & Karl in Columbus, but my heart is in Clintonville where I grew up :)

My husband and I have 2 kids, a 8.5 year old daughter and a 6 year old son. Our son is a High Functioning Autistic. We are homeschoolers. I love to bake, photography, gardening and reading. I’m planting our first vegetable garden in years this year and I am very, very excited! I am also working on my masters in counseling.

I love this blog because it’s local(!) and there are wonderful tips for gardening and homesteading. :)

I’m Cliff in Worthington. I met Rachel when she was in charge of Religious Education at our church, and have been following her blog for a while now. I was inspired by the Grow Your Garden series last year and finally did some vegetable gardening. Looking to expand it a lot this year, and I still go back to the series (and now ebook) for reference and inspiration.

I’m Erin and I met Rachel through our kids preschool. I live in Granville now but lived in Clintonville for 11 years. Since we moved to a place with a bigger yard we’ve greatly expanded our garden and enjoy canning our harvest.

Hi, I’m Melissa. I am married and have three kids, 5, 3, and 1. We currently live in Clintonville but will be moving this summer to the farm I inherited last year. My husband is the gardener and we had a nice garden there and started keeping bees last year (we are so excited all four hives made it through the winter). I love the local food trend and I enjoy trying out new and established local restaurants. I’m beginning to get more confident in the kitchen, and I’m finding that I especially love cooking with things that we grow. Your blog is a great inspiration to me!

Hi I’m Elaine and I also know Rachel from the UU Church. I live in Clintonville with my husband. I work full time (and have other interests) so one of my goals is to design my garden to be as low maintenance as possible – perennial and wild edibles. Would like to hear reviews and recipes for them.

Brian here, a Clintonville resident with wife Meghan. We’re artists and foodies who dream about moving to the country. I’d like to get more into gardening, but don’t have a chance in my townhouse. I enjoy reading about someone who has been successful in urban homesteading.

    10. March 23, 2011 at 8:18 pm

This is Heather – a life long Columbus resident. I don’t garden because I have a black thumb and it would be cruel to the poor plants. I love to cook – especially bake – and read cookbooks like novels.

Hi, I’m Charise. I live in Dublin. I enjoy cooking at home 5ish nights a week. No garden, but we are in the process of selling our condo and buying a house, so I am hoping to test the waters next year. I am big on super flavorful meals and buying local, cook a lot of Indian, and have been exploring more vegetarian meals the last year or so.

I’m Alex, Rachel’s husband. I write on here occasionally, but less than I should. I’m an engineer by trade and work for the Federal Government as a quality auditor. I enjoy our crazy gardening life and am very much of the DIY school (gardening, cooking, brewing, reloading ammo, etc…). I take pleasure in making things for myself and my family.

And, of course, Rachel is the best wife ever :) .

    13. March 23, 2011 at 11:24 pm

I’m Kate. I live in Grandview now, but my family of three will soon be moving to Franklinton to dive into living in community and working with Franklinton Gardens.

I love to prepare simple, healthy foods. I started gardening alongside my parents as an infant, and it’s a love that has stuck. I hope to impart the same pride of eating food one has grown themselves to my son who is now 2.5. He digs, plants and waters and pours, stirs and cooks right along with me.

My husband is a professional guitarist. It’s pretty awesome.

Like Sally, the first poster here, I could subsist entirely on my homemade bread with (non-dairy) butter. Although I prefer it toasted. It just makes the best toast you could ever imagine.

I live in German Village with my boyfriend, Dan, and 2 year old pup. I’m a full time law student so balancing my time is very important to me. I’ve been gardening for 2-3 years and love to cook at home, even if it’s a meal thats quickly thrown together. I grew up canning with my mom and I’m trying to get better at food preserving on my own now. I met Rachel during one of her cooking classes and love reading a Columbus-based blog that always seems to have timely and relevant homesteading advice.

Hello, I’m Krickett (yes, my real name for those that are wondering) I live in Dublin with my husband and two wonderful daughters. I haven’t updated my blog in quite a while but you are welcome to read it at http://www.sb2china.blogspot.com. I started that blog to update my family on a chapter in our life but it has postings on our gardening efforts. We currently are square foot gardening because of our limited space. My husband and I just finished bee keeping classes as this is something we’d love to start as our next project…..after we find the house of our urban farming dreams. I’m the only vegetarian in the family, love cooking and am trying to educate myself on Indian dishes. Nice to meet you all!

      March 24, 2011 at 11:47 am

I’m Rachel. I live between Sunbury and Johnstown with my husband and 10 month old daughter. I grew up on a 1000 acre farm about 70 miles east of Columbus. We currently have a little over 5 acres here. I’ve got a 4×8 square foot garden (that I made my husband move closer to the house last weekend – soil and all!) and I’m going to build another 4×8 raised bed. Both of these raised beds will be right next to my rain barrel which is already half full from the rain the last few days. My first garden was 2 years ago in a house we rented in Westerville. Everything was in pots except for one zucchini plant.
Our next project will probably be chickens (next year maybe). I’d really like some sheep, but that involves putting up a barn and some fence and it’s not in the budget right now. I plan on “borrowing” some from my sister’s farm initially.
I like to cook and bake. I’m currently taking a cake decorating class, although I don’t care for the taste of buttercream.

    17. March 24, 2011 at 2:31 pm

I am Tracy from Clintonville. I have two doggies and one spouse who all seem content and supportive of my interest in gardening and cooking. I am currently a graduate student at OSU studying public health and am itching to return to the working world soon. I write a food blog with a friend who lives in Chicago. Currently, I am writing a series about an Elimination Diet prescribed by our physician. Please feel free to check it out!

I’m the Trashmaster. I’m a Master Recycler & Composter in Portland, OR, and I run a reducing/reusing/recycling/being more aware kind of blog, Trashing My Reputation (on blogspot). My now-husband and I have been keeping separate gardens and growing enough stuff to make a (small) dent in our grocery bill. I’ve just moved in with him and we’re combining gardens. Next spring we hope to have chickens, and maybe even honeybees one of these days. In the meantime, we grow fruits, vegetables & mushrooms, and while we’re both good cooks, we haven’t been doing so well with cooking at home while we had separate households. We’re figuring on doing far more at-home cooking now!

    19. March 24, 2011 at 10:21 pm

I’m Eric. My wife and I currently rent a house in Grandview along with a few freeloaders (2 dogs and a cat). We are recently married (August 2010) and are just starting our adventure together. This year we’re attempting a garden for the second time. Last year was sort of a bust for a number of reasons, but we hope to correct those this year. The first of next year we hope to buy a place of our own, out in the country on at least 5 acres. We’re planning on getting some chickens, horses, goats, some day a cow or two, and whatever else tickles our fancy.

We’ve both really enjoyed Hounds in the Kitchen! It seems like every time we think of something to try or research, we look here and find a post about it. We’re just starting our adventure together, so it’s great to have a local resource like this to look at and get inspiration!

    20. March 25, 2011 at 3:09 pm

I’m Stephanie and I live in Gahanna with my husband and 1 year old son. I’ve always liked to cook and bake and I’m hoping to delve in to some canning this year!

Since the birth of our son we have begun to live a more natural lifestyle and I’m constantly learning new things. I love reading your blog for inspiration!

This will be our 3rd year having a small, backyard garden and hopefully our 2nd successful year! We’re still earning our green thumbs!

    21. March 25, 2011 at 11:01 pm

I’m Diana and I’m a fan of Rachel’s. We live outside of Columbus, on a couple of acres. We raise a garden, have a few pets, but we do not have chickens, or goats or other critters for food or otherwise. I started cooking as a teen for my family, and have continued learning new things all along. I took a social media class that Rachel led and enjoyed it very much and learned a lot. Good Luck Rachel, I love Hounds…

    22. March 26, 2011 at 11:55 am

Sally, let me know if you want a garden consult. Even tiny backyards have room for garden beds!

    23. March 26, 2011 at 11:57 am

I hope your family enjoys gardening as much as mine, Stephanie. I’ll be teaching plenty of canning classes this summer if you get stuck and want some guidance.
