Update on Pantry Month: On Tuesday last week I spent $18 on milk and kefir. We are out of fresh vegetables today but have frozen green beans and peas and fresh apples and oranges to get us through the week at least. I ordered $8 worth of tea in our Frontier co-op that came in on Thursday. We spent $29 on restaurant food during my surgery. That leaves $45 for the rest of the month which doesn’t look good…especially with Alex wanting to spend money on junk food for the Sci-Fi Movie Marathon…
Well, I spent $70 dollars last week. My budget for the month is $200. So not a great start. But it did include four bottles of kefir on sale at Kroger, so we should be stocked there for a few weeks (we drain the stuff now that Charlie is drinking it too).
I need to stock up on flour. I am going to move more of our baked goods consumption to in-house production (thanks for the link to the buns!)
Now I am searching for a good meal planner app. Surely someone has created one, right? My dream app would let me inventory our freezer and pantry, enter favorite recipes, and suggest meals based on our “stash” food. Not too much to ask for, right?
I’d hate to calculate what I spent this weekend at the market. We had family over for lunch, so I bought a Gerber chicken and a pint of Jeni’s (that NO ONE wanted!), plus other random stuff.
I haven’t had kefir in forever; I used to put it in my smoothies all the time. Instead I’ve been using the vanilla almond milk from TJ’s.
Snowville is doing a demo/discussion about yogurt & kefir making on the 18th @ 6:30 @ Whole Foods. I think they’re even passing out the stuff you need to start making your own kefir.
