I am a suggestible self-controlled perfectionist.  Therefore, new years resolutions are usually successful for me.  Of course, I help myself out by creating reasonable and measurable resolutions.  Let it be resolved that in 2011, I will:

messed up sinuses1. Fix my headbone. I’ve been fairly quiet about it here, but since September I have suffered from sinus infections and pressure. I finally had a c/t scan that revealed turbinates and bone blocking normal sinus flow. Surgery to remove the offending tissue is scheduled for the end of January unless I can get in earlier.

    2. Make crackers regularly so that we no longer buy them.

    3. Find a source and purchase local and/or organic chicken feed.  Our current feed from Purina is a travesty to the local food movement and probably not the greatest for the girls either.

    4. Learn to edit and publish videos with less frustration.

    5. Hike at least once a month. Backpack and camp at least three times.

    6. Budget more towards savings. We want to travel a lot and money seems to be the constant excuse for why we cannot. If we budget more for savings, it follows that we will have more savings to spend on travel.

    7. Return to a feel-good weight and tone. The sinus issues have knocked me out of my healthy eating and exercise routines. I want to lose a little weight and regain strength. I’ll share my tips and tricks for doing so in the next few weeks.

    8. Practice being content. I so enjoy bettering myself and my surroundings that I am rarely satisfied to be still. I want to work on being thankful for where I am.

Good resolutions! I’m very interested in finding out more about #2 and would love to help with that sometime.
Also, #3 is a big deal for me too. I’ve been looking into it, and haven’t been able to figure it out yet, but I’m still trying. I did find a locally sold grower feed for our meat chickens sold out of Prospect, OH. It isn’t organic, and I still need to look into it more. They also had organic feed in the Meyer Hatchery catalog, and it was $66.39 for a 50lb bag. YIKES! Not in the budget.
#4 What video editing software do you have?

I’ll certainly be sharing cracker recipes when I find good ones. My sister made me some delicious crackers for xmas and I want to play with her recipe. (I suspect it had copious amounts of butter, which is fine for a treat but not my first choice for everyday.)

When I find a source of decent feed, I plan to run a co-op for other interested chicken owners. I know several other locals who have expressed interest…

A great list. I may be able to help with the video editing. I’m no expert but I have had good luck with movie maker and actually the video editor on YouTube for vids of Stella and new initiative we’ve been doing at work sending videos to our employees. I could sit down with you sometime and show you what I know and learn how to make crackers! Not sure if you are a Mac or PC person though, I am definitely a PC. Hopefully, you’re head feels better soon! That sounds awful.

I’ll ask if I need help…the biggest video issue is that my nice camera only records in .mov and I have no mac. I am most familiar with windows movie maker but that doesn’t import .mov.

That, and I have to get comfortable with taking videos of myself with my camera on a tripod, not just videos of Lil.

I think there are a variety of programs to convert files, some are even free. Or I’ve read you can just change the file extension but I’ve never tried that with videos but I have seen it work with pictures. Good luck! We’re trying to do more video to communicate with our employees all over the country at work. I’m not getting a lot of volunteers so I’ve had pretty good luck with a webcam to record myself but it’s mostly just 2 min or less of talking, not really instruction that requires more space or viewing area. It’s so easy though, I can upload directly to YouTube from the webcam.

I made crackers for the first time last night. Used the pasta machine to flatten the dough. They are good but a bit bland. Now I’m ready to spice them up.
Your resolutions sound great – best of luck.

That would be fun! Have you taken the kids backpacking yet? We think Lil is finally old enough.
