• Garden & Local Food Events: January 2010

    This month’s events are fairly light.  Much local food is out of season and it isn’t exactly gardening weather.  I have even taken the month off from Kids Cook classes to focus on the Baying Hound store and my OEFFA presentation.  I will resume in February with extended age groups.  In the meantime, be inspired by one of these events:

    Info Session Wednesday, January 13, 10:15am; Weekly Sessions begin Wednesday, January 27

    Offered in cooperation with Simply Living and Earth Institute, this discussion course will equip parents with information and tools to raise children who are creative and connected nature in a world that is focused on technology, media and consumerism. Registration is required. Attend the info session or call for more info. $25 one-time fee covers class materials.

    Garden Central Symposium and Organic Vegetable Conference ~ Carlisle Inn in Sugar Creek (near Athens)

    January 15 – 16, 4 pm Friday – 5 pm Saturday, $125-200/person including room and meals

    Thrifty Gardening ~ Franklin Park Conservatory

    January 31, 1 – 2:30 PM, $13.50 Members, $15 Non-members

    Conservatory Horticulturist Amanda Bettin shares techniques and tips for creating and maintaining a beautiful garden without breaking the budget. Participants will create a winter sowing container to take home along with seeds.

    Restaurant Widow Potluck ~ Wild Goose Creative

    Sunday January 31, 7 pm

    Bring a dish to share with other Columbus food lovers.  Lisa, the Restaurant Widow, will provide a main dish.  Free; donations to Wild Goose accepted
